Re:  Transportation on April 10, 2018

On the morning of Tuesday, April 10, Grade 10 students and some Grade 11 and 12 students will be writing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). The purpose of the test is to assess the students’ basic reading and writing skills. Students need to pass the test in order to receive an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Classroom teachers are currently providing these students with strategies, materials and classroom instruction related to reading and writing. Plans are also underway to put in place additional supports for students writing the test and to provide those students with every opportunity to succeed.   As we anticipate a large number of both first time and repeat writers of the test, additional teaching staff will be needed to assist in the administration of the test. Consequently, we will be reorganizing the structure of the school day on April 10.  Please note the following arrangements:

  • on Tuesday, April 10 school buses will pick up only those students writing the OSSLT at the regular bus time;
  • students not participating in the OSSLT will be picked-up at their regular bus stop exactly three and a half (3.5) hours after their regularly scheduled morning pick-up time;
  • for students who walk to school and who are writing the OSSLT, the day will begin at its regular time;
  • for students who walk to school and who are not writing the OSSLT, the day will begin three and a half (3.5) hours later than normal;
  • students writing the OSSLT will be at school all day.

Hopefully, these arrangements will enable the school to employ the resources necessary to support our students in this important endeavour. Overall, disruptions to normal classroom activities and loss of learning opportunities will be kept to a minimum.

Please feel free to contact me at the school if you have any questions or concerns about these arrangements for April 10.

Thank you for your continued support of the school.

Yours truly,

Heinrich Bebie

Principal
