Designated Early Childhood Educator

The Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) is assigned to the school and reports to the Principal. The DECE partners with the classroom teacher to plan and implement a full day early learning program supporting faith initiatives within a Catholic classroom setting and provide supervision and age appropriate Catholic programming for groups of students as part of the extended day program in the school. Catholicity is a requirement of this position and applicants must submit a pastoral reference along with their complete application.

  • Minimum requirements for Designated Early Childhood Educators are:
  • Two year Early Childhood Education Diploma and proof of registration and good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Minimum of six months childcare experience in a childcare or educational setting
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education full day early learning program and related legislation; knowledge of SMCDSB related polices and procedures.
  • Proven ability to deal with classroom management, stressful and emergency situations.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully designing, planning and implementing age appropriate Catholic programs.
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and move/carry equipment for program, and must be able to physically assist children as required (e.g. lifting 20kg) and repetitive bending.
